Feed the fish evaluation

There was a number of strengths to our interpretation of the feed the fish script, first of all we start with a establishing shot which i think was effective, we used this to tell the audience the surroundings. In this establishing shot we also established a character. The character walks towards a door, as he gets closer we cut away to a different angle, a lot closer to the character and a slightly lower, we done this to show this character has some sort of power. Next we used match on action to see the character enter the corridor from a completely different view. This worked well in my opinion as well because it avoided jump cuts. Then the character is tracked, with the camera being hand held, this was a difficult shot to attempt but i feel we done well as it creates a sense of importance to the character, the camera follows the character because he is important. The next shot is the same character walking up the stairs, this is a high angle shot, we used this again effectively as it enables to the audience to see the surroundings as a whole, then there is a match on action with this character walking down the corridor, this is effective as it allows us to show the audience the whole settings rather than the confined space. As this Character walks we inserted an effect, which cuts out certain moments of the walk down the corridor, i believe this was particularly effective as it cuts time, it prevents the audience from seeing a boring walk down the corridor. There is another match on action here as the character enters the room, which changes to a pan, as we follow his movement and then he says "I'm here". Whilst he says this we specifically made sure we did not cut away as we wanted to create a sense of mystery about who this character was talking to. When we do cut to the second character, it shows a shot of him overlooking everything, suggesting he is powerful as he overlooks everything and everyone. Then the second character takes a seat, then we cut away to the first character taking his seat as they are speaking, the dialog here was particularly effective as it shows the power difference as the second character instructs the first to sit down. We then have a medium close up of the first character as he asks an important question, we elected to use this shot as it allows the audience to see the emotion/facial expressions on the first characters face.  Then there is a shot with the powerful second character, who stands up and walks towards the other character stroking an object, the camera pans as we follow him. This is effective as it builds suspense as we want to know what is going to happen next.

If we was to re-do this piece of work we could improve by avoiding one jump cut that i noticed when watching it back. Something else we could work on is the length of our shots as the longer we are the more boring the shot gets, we should think about shorter shots in order to keep the audience's attention.
Also we should have prepared better, for example towards the end the lighting contrast was extreme as one shot was dark and one was a lot brighter even though we was in the same location and time. Finally a last improvement we could perhaps think about in future was the background noise, which was not supposed to be there. If there is no external noise it would work better allowing dialogue to be heard clearer as well as helping us to create the specific atmosphere.

Harry Potter

Harry Potter final.

Evaluation

1.        What style or feel of music did you use for the credit sequence and why?
The style of music I used for the opening credit sequence was loud and was ‘two drums’ which played over repeatedly. The drums were deep and created a rhythm. The reason why I used the drums as it created the specific atmosphere which I wanted to create. It gave a stern but mysterious impression, which I wanted to be clearly shown at this part of the video.  The drums being run throughout the entire opening sequence also gives of the impression that the mood of the opening scene has been set and you can tell what type of opening this film will have

How effective do you think your sequence is for the credit sequence & titles?
I would say the effectiveness is 7 out of 10 as it is successful in creating the rhythm and creating a underlying mood of how the opening film will start.

2.        What style of music did you use for the playground sequence and why?
At the playground scene I used different types of music; at the start when you see the shots of the roundabout and other features there is a sound bridge and we carry on using the happy environmental music as we used in the scene before. We do this because we believe it is parallel to the scene and it shows the audience that in this moment in time the mood is calm, relaxed and nice.  As the mood slowly shifts we show this with the quieting of the music to show the happy mood is lowering, just like the volume, we then add in other mysterious music to show the mood has completely changed, then we add in environmental sounds to complement the scene as the mood has completely shifted, and the music we use emphasizes this alongside the visual effects.
The effectiveness of for our music I would say is about a 6 or 7 as it could have flowed better but was still detrimental in setting the mood for particularly important moments.

3.        What style of music did you use for the sequence when the dementors appeared and why? How do you feel the music and feel changed? To what extent did you manage to convey the change in mood?
When the dementors appear we add more music in which has a more sinister feel to it, once again changing the mood of the previous scene, it’s also dark, like the dementors that connotes the evil which is currently taking place. Our music still sounded fairly similar apart from the underlying mysterious tone but I feel the mood still changed to a slightly more sinister mood.  I think we conveyed the significant change in mood to a poor extent, the music was not to distinct from the music we had used before we did not signify a change in mood.
I think the effectiveness of our dementors scene is around a 5 or 6 due to the fact when the mood changes, the music doesn't change a lot to emphasize it.

4.        As a whole I’m pleased with the sequence especially between 0:01 and 2.53; at this point I believe the effectiveness of our sequence dropped and didn't maintain the standards of the previous scenes, but I am still pleased with the sequence overall.
Overall I would say that our soundtrack is pretty effective , even though it loses its effectiveness halfway through the clip,  overall I would say our effectiveness for this clip is a 5 out of 10.
